Before checking the exposure, you have to make sure the curve the software is using corresponds to your target.
In this example, we are using the Golden Thread target and have set the curve on linear scientific.
To double check, go to View> Lab readout > Golden Thread Standard

Double check your lab readouts settings

Zoom in on the color target.
Hold click on color balance > choose add color readouts. Add one color readout on each patch from 10 to 15. They should match the values of the Golden thread values on the target.

If the values are off go to > Exposure tool on the toolbar and change the exposure. Do not adjust the exposure more than .2 or .3. If you have to do such adjustments to approximate the golden thread values, it is better to change the shutter speed and reshoot your image.
