Place the Golden Thread under the lens of the camera, centered. Open Live View. Zoom in on the target to 300 to 400%. Using the ring of the lens, focus on the target – a moiré pattern should appear on the resolution ruler. You can use the focus meter to help you focus.

There are three ways to check if the focus is good: if it looks good, if you can see a moiré pattern, and if the focus meter is at or close to a 100%.

Once in focus, close Live View.

Take a picture (foot pedal / command + K / shutter control). To double check focus, zoom in on the resolution ruler to your set resolution. You should see discrete lines and a moiré pattern at 600 if you are shooting at 600dpi, 400 if you are shooting at 400dpi, etc.

To check your resolution, use Capture One Ruler tool. Drag the ruler over 1 inch on the Golden Thread. The resolution will appear in the Capture Resolution Ruler menu on the left. Be sure to set your length to 1 inch (or 1 cm if you’re using cm) to have a proper reading.
