LCC stands for Lens Cast Calibration. Capture One CH offers this tool to help correcting uneven exposures and achieving uniform light in the capture area. It is very important to set up or charge a proper LCC profile when starting a job or a new session. Because exposure is impacted by the distance between the camera and the object photographed, you need to have a different LCC profile for each resolution set up (600dpi, 400dpi, 300dpi).

When to create a LCC profile?

You need to create a new LCC profile when:

  • Changing the resolution
  • Moving the camera, changing the distance between the lens and the object
  • Changing the light setting

If using a consistent set up, you do not need to create a LCC profile every time you start a new project. LCC profiles can be saved and uploaded (see below).

Creating a new LCC profile

Your camera needs to be in focus at the chosen resolution before you can start creating a LCC profile.

Set a white board on the bench, covering your capture area.
Using the Rodenstock shutter control, bring down the shutter speed in order to create a darker image.
Take a picture.
Make sure your no area of the picture is overexposed. You can move your mouse pointer over the picture to double check the values. If it is higher than 100, it is overexposed and you need to stop down and take another picture.
If your image is satisfactory, name it distinctly. For example, if you’re shooting at 600dpi, the name of your LCC image will be: 600dpi_date/project_lcc.
In the LCC menu , click create LCC. This LCC profile will be used for all consecutive images.

Saving and uploading a LCC profile

You can save the LCC profile you just created as a preset. This will be useful if you are imaging another project using the same set up (resolution + lens + lighting), so you don’t have to repeat the same steps over and over.

After having created your LCC profile, go to the drop down menu of the LCC box.
Click Save User Preset
A box will appear, check all boxes and click save
Name your LCC profile precisely (using the same name as your LCC image)

Click save user preset

To upload a LCC profile when starting a new project, go to the LCC drop down menu and select your chosen preset.
Be sure to upload the LCC profile BEFORE any object capture.
Once uploaded, the profile will be applied to all future captures.
