Naming structures

Before photographing your first object, choose and set your naming structure. Here again,  the software offers a lot of flexibility and allows you to automate all or parts of the object’s naming sequence.

Go to Capture > Next Capture Naming

You then have several possibilities.
The Format fields allows you to arrange tokens with repeated information to add to your naming sequence. For example, if you want the Destination Folder to be present in your object’s name, you can add it as a token and the software will automatically generate the name in the Sample field. The format field is also where you can set up counters
The Name field allows you to manually input your object’s name. In order to have the name feature in your sequence, you have to add the ‘Name‘ token in your format field.
Always check the Sample field to make sure your object’s name is accurate.

Capture Counters

Capture counters can be set/reset at your convenience.
Go to Next Capture Naming > […]
A drop down menu will appear.
Capture One also allows you to set a capture counter increment, useful when imaging books one side at a time, for example.

Saving and uploading a naming structure preset

Capture One also allows you to save naming structures as a preset. Click on the extension of the Format field to open the Naming Format menu. Inside the menu, you can drag and drop tokens into the format field.
Once your naming structure is set, click save user preset. This will open a window offering you to name your preset. Just as for the LCC preset, name your structures precisely so it can be easily uploaded.
To upload a preset, go to Naming Format > Presets and choose from your presets.

Renaming a file

Remember to ALWAYS rename a file opened in its session and NOT in the Capture Folder in Finder/Windows. Otherwise you risk breaking your file path and loosing the settings associated with your image (IIQ) file.

You can simply rename your file in your viewer or browser. If you have variants, they will automatically be renamed at the same time.

Batch rename

Capture One also gives you the option to batch rename files.
Go to File > Batch Rename Images

You will have two options : Find and Replace or Text and Tokens.
Find and Replace : Find and replace the word you’d like to change
Text and Tokens : Change the name structure of your documents, or just one section (eg, counter). This works the same as your naming structure, using the same format.

Note : If you shot an object using increments, you have the option to rename every other object by using a counter with increments when you are renaming. On the Batch Renaming pop up window click on the […] to access the counter menu, just like you do in the regular naming menu.

Be careful to properly select the first image to be renamed (Primary Variant) when you do that, as it can get a little tricky if you make a mistake renaming. The software doesn’t allow you to go back to the previous names after being renamed. You can also set the Rename Counter in this menu.
